EPTE Therapy Amsterdam IJburg, NDSM,
Amstelkwartier and Amsterdam Noord
EPTE (Ultrasound-guided PercuTane Electrolysis) is a new treatment method for long-term tendon complaints or tendon complaints that are proving difficult to heal. Examples include the Achilles tendon, heel spur and tennis elbow. Scientific research has proven that EPTE has beneficial effects for these types of tendon complaints. In addition to EPTE Therapy, it is essential to train according to a special exercise program to strengthen the muscles and tendons again. For some tendon complaints, treatment with Shockwave works well in combination with EPTE.
What exactly does EPTE Therapy entail?
To get a good picture of the complaint, we first view and assess the seriousness of the complaint using ultrasound. The ultrasound then determines the exact location the EPTE needle has to be inserted. The skin is disinfected and the EPTE needle punctures the site with ultrasound guidance. Once the needle is in place, the EPTE device is turned on and a light electrical current is applied for 1 to 2 minutes. This current is the stimulation for the tendon to calm the inflammation and initiate a natural recovery. During the treatments, we also make ultrasound images to monitor the correct localization and intensity.
For which conditions is EPTE effective?
- Heel spur (plantar fasciitis)
- Achilles tendon complaints (Achilles tendinopathy)
- Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis)
- Shoulder complaints (subscapularis tendinopathy)
- Knee complaints (jumper’s knee)
How many treatments do you need?
A course of 5 to 10 treatments is the most effective. Your pain will be significantly reduced and a completely pain-free recovery may even be feasible.
Advantages of the EPTE Therapy
- Treatment without drugs or surgery
- No damage or negative side effects (as may occur when using injections)
- Short-term treatment of 1-2 minutes per session
- Few treatments required
- The treatment is almost pain-free
- EPTE treatments are provided in addition to physiotherapy, which can be reimbursed as usual by your additional insurance.
Costs of the EPTE treatment process
An EPTE treatment is reimbursed by the additional insurance. However, due to the high costs of the EPTE and Echo equipment, we need to charge a small amount to cover maintenance and material costs. A treatment process costs a total of €99.50.
The costs of an EPTE treatment process are structured as follows: prior to the treatments, we assess your complaint during a physiotherapy session and we make an ultrasound for diagnosis, so that we know where and with what intensity we can start treating with the EPTE equipment. This comprehensive ultrasound diagnosis
costs €49.50 in addition to costs for a physiotherapy session.
Subsequently, the EPTE treatment is applied in addition to the regular physiotherapy treatment. For an EPTE treatment process of 5 sessions, you pay €30 as a contribution towards our material costs.
Finally, a short ultrasound is made to evaluate the recovery, for which the costs are €20
If necessary, additional treatments are carried out that are charged separately per session.
EPTE at the Schellingwoude practice location
Due to the specific equipment we need, the EPTE treatments can only be performed at our Schellingwoude location.
